We are working to reform education and aim to change the curriculum in school to better reflect the needs of our modern society, the diversity of our population and to address the problems faced by young people living in Jersey today. Our five focus areas are:
- To make Jersey an inclusive, understanding, supportive society to live in for those with Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Improved teacher support
- Educating young people so that they are prepared for living independently, post education, and throughout their working for life
- Aiming to create a more diverse, inclusive, and anti-discriminatory education system
- Ensuring that islanders understand and respect the cultures and faiths of Jersey today as well as its history

JYP 2021/22 Final Report and Recommendations
On 18th July 2022, the JYP members met for the final time and presented their key findings and recommendations to the newly elected States Assembly. The presentation has been captured within this report.
February Update
The education group prepared a video update which has been shared with the States Assembly. They put the following questions to the Minister for Children and Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden:
- We previously discussed LGBTQ+ education becoming mandatory in schools. Is there a timeline in mind for this?
- What do you think are the reasons for a low voter turnout and how do you think these could be addressed?
- If designed, how quickly can a new PSHE curriculum be implemented? How willing are you to expand the curriculum?
- Prior to COP26 the Ministers pledged to ‘Put Children First’ in their response to the Climate Emergency. In the CYPES Business Plan 2022 there is no clear allocation of funding to do this. How will work started by the Carbon Road Map be supported by CYPES? (Question also posed to the Infrastructure and Environment Ministers):
- Young people would like to recycle at school but there is no consistent approach across the island. Have the Infrastructure, Education and Environment Ministers met to pursue this following September’s commitment to do so? (Question also posed to the Infrastructure and Environment Ministers)

September Update
On 28th September 2021, the JYP presented to the States Assembly in the States Chamber. Following the presentation a report was compiled and can be read via the link below along with an easy read in English and Polish.
